The 1964 Initial Draft will begin on Saturday, August 15, 2015, and will be conducted strictly through e-mail announcements and lists.
The Initial Draft will be very similar to the Annual Draft description in the League Guide, the main difference being that the Initial Draft will be serpentine and the Annual Draft will not. The Initial Draft order will be reversed in all even-numbered rounds.
Because TNRL is a continuous-ownership league, your drafting strategy for the Initial Draft should take both the current 1964 season and future seasons into account.
The order for the Initial Draft was determined using the List Randomizer at random.org.
It is ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL that ALL draft-related announcement e-mail be addressed to ALL 16 managers, including yourself, so that members can Reply All to them. We had problems with this in TNL last year, when some picks were only sent to one or two managers, delaying things by several hours. This apparently is a common problem in other leagues as well.
Draft lists, on the other hand, should be sent only to the Commissioner, unless you have asked another manager to make your pick for you from your list. You might choose to do this if the Commissioner is scheduled to pick before you, and you wished to keep your list private (though this honestly should not be a problem).
While individual picks and draft lists are strongly preferred, a manager may choose to use the auto-draft capabilities within Advanced Draft to make one or more picks for him. A manager may provide his own customized Scout and GM files, or he can use the Default files for each. Customized Scout and GM files may be updated as desired during the draft. If a manager expects to use auto-draft at any time during the Initial Draft, he should inform the Commissioner before the draft begins, and provide any customized files prior to the beginning of the round in which those files will first be used.
An e-mail will be sent out at the completion of each round with a list of picks made in that round and an updated c-file. There may be additional update e-mails during a round, such as at the end of a day, or if there is a long delay between picks. In addition, the Draft function within Advanced Draft will be used to record the progress of the draft.
Each round will be limited to two days. In the earlier rounds, when interest is highest, I would expect most rounds to be completed fairly quickly through individual picks, particularly on weekends. Things tend to slow down starting in the mid-rounds.
On the second day of each round, there will be a list deadline at 9 PM Pacific Time. Managers whose picks have not been made up to that point will need to submit player lists for that pick. Individual picks can continue to be announced via e-mail right up until the deadline on the second day, which should reduce the number and length of lists.
The Initial Draft will end no later than Friday, October 23. This would be the final list deadline if all 35 rounds take two days to complete, and it would allow slightly less than two weeks for trading and roster preparation before Week 1 lineups f-files are due on Tuesday, November 3.
